Welcome to Reclama
This is a project I’ve thought way too long about launching but I am so grateful I am finally decided to officially launch Reclama in 2019. Diving timing, right?
If you’ve been on this journey with me since 2018, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. If this is the first time you’re coming across Reclama, welcome.
My name is Cindy. I’ve been a writer my whole life but didn’t own the title until a few years ago, even with a degree in journalism. I convinced myself that I had to wait for someone else to give me this title. It was only when I called myself a writer that it felt like I took the chains off and started to write the things I was scared and excited about, embarrassed even.
With this shift, I’ve felt compelled to share what I’ve learned in my 10+ years in journalism, time teaching at Rutgers, and the spiritual practice I’ve created for myself over the years. Because if you want to be a writer or a better anything, you have to know yourself very well. Writing is a powerful outlet for just that. A whole conversation from myself to myself opens up once the pen hits the paper. It’s been liberating and healing.
At first, I called it Pen to Paper Retreats but when it came time to register it, I couldn’t do it. The name didn’t feel like me. The new name needed to evoke MY why. So I changed it to Reclama (reclaim in Spanish) because nature, writing, and community have helped reclaim parts of myself that I thought I lost.
More on the name change (and rebranding if you will) right here:
So here we are again with a new year (wait, a new decade!) ahead of us and I have day hikes, retreats and, if the Universe thinks 2020 is the year for an international retreat, Peru. I am creating the thing I wish existed in the world when I needed guidance so I hope you’ll join me for the ride.
